Wrinkle Reduction Injections (commonly known as Botox)

Botulinum type A (commonly known as botox) has been used cosmetically for more than 10 years and it has also been used to treat certain medical conditions in the UK for over 20 years. Botulinum type A is a purified protein which is injected into specific muscles in the face to temporarily relax them, softening facial expressions and helping to reverse the signs of ageing.  Treatment is usually effective within 3 to 4 days, although it may take up to 3 weeks for the full effects to be seen.  The speed of action will depend on the strength of your facial muscles and your individual response to the injection.

Common treatment areas are vertical lines between the eyebrows (referred to as the Glabellar Complex), horizontal forehead lines and crow's feet.

Description / Details

Before your treatment any make-up will be removed and the skin disinfected.  Your practitioner will then study your facial muscles to see how they work, as individuals can differ.   The treatment session will last about an hour, this will include time for a full medical consultation to be taken.  The actual treatment time will only take about 10 minutes and you can return to your usual daily activities immediately afterwards.  We will advise you following your treatment about how to look after your skin and provide you with written aftercare information, including any follow-up appointment required.

Further Notes

The Independant Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS), endorsed by the General Medical Council, has been established to regulate the cosmetic industry and to protect the public.  IHAS states that only medically qualified practitioners - doctors, dentists or nurses holding a prescribing qualification can safely provide injectable cosmetic procedures such as botulinum type A.  Any other professions, for example beauty therapists, chiropodists or dental hygienists SHOULD NOT be administering medical cosmetic procedures.  Futhermore, the practice of remote prescribing (whereby a treatment is administered following a telephone consultation with a doctor/nurse prescriber) is not considered safe practice.  At bareaesthetics only medically qualified practitioners will be treating you.  We DO NOT endorse such treatments being provided in beauty salons or by non medical professionals.
